Working Principle of a Submersible Pump

Submersible pumps are widely used in agricultural irrigation, industrial drainage, construction, and domestic water supply. Their most notable feature is that they operate entirely submerged in water, offering a compact structure, easy installation, and stable operation. The core operating principle of a submersible pump is based on the combination of centrifugal force and motor drive. It consists of two main components: a motor and a pump. The motor is typically waterproof and sealed, directly immersed in water to provide power, while the pump comprises key components such as the impeller, pump casing, and water inlet and outlet. During operation, the motor drives the impeller to rotate at high speed, and the impeller blades exert a strong centrifugal force on the water entering the pump. This centrifugal force propels the water from the center of the impeller toward the edges of the pump casing, significantly increasing its pressure. The high-pressure water then flows through the guide channel within the pump casing and is delivered to the desired location through the outlet. Simultaneously, the impeller's center creates a low-pressure zone due to the ejected water. This pressure differential causes external water to continuously replenish the water through the inlet, creating a continuous and stable pumping cycle. Submersible pumps come in a variety of types, categorized by purpose, including clean water pumps, sewage pumps, and corrosion-resistant pumps. Their internal structures are also tailored to specific applications. For example, sewage pumps are often equipped with cutting mechanisms or large-channel impellers to handle liquids containing solid particles. Furthermore, submersible pump motors typically utilize oil-filled or dry-type waterproof designs to ensure reliable long-term underwater operation.
